Posted: 12 Nov 2012 10:09 AM PST Move aside JAWS, we have a more helpful shark here to ensure correct posture and aid better sitting. Basically Sharky is a 'cross leg stopper' that can be used both the ways. When placed on the chair, it makes sure you don't end up crossing your legs unconsciously. Flip it up to use as a table and a cross-leg stopper. Research says that prolonged leg crossing can lead to joint pains at the knees and the hips. Like they say, better to befriend Sharky than be sorry! Designer: Lucy Jung - Related posts: |
Posted: 12 Nov 2012 10:06 AM PST Inspired by a little wooden toy sailboat, designer Shpelyk Roman modeled the Sailing Ship lamp to subtly mimic the boat’s working structure.. The neck and power cord of the lamp represent the mast and pulleys respectively, while the circular LED represents the sail itself. To adjust the angle of the light, simply give or take slack from the power cord, similar to how you would adjust a sail! Designer: Shpelyk Roman - Related posts: |
The RoadShow Is Ready! Namaste Product Design Days Posted: 12 Nov 2012 08:37 AM PST We gave a huge shout out to all ye designers that Product Design Days is coming up in November and that Yanko Design will be presenting the Yanko Design RoadShow. Well, November is here and we just wanted to update you that if you are in the vicinity of Chennai, then do drop in and see what an innovative exhibition and conference this event is. I call it an innovative show simply because Product Design Days is the first of its kind exhibition and conference in India, where business houses and manufacturers are getting an insight to why streamlining a product designer into their business realm is an imperative move, especially if they want to sustain themselves in the long run. Essentially is the place where designers and design firms get to meet and explore options and forge new business liaisons with the other side of the spectrum. This perspective ties in with what Yanko Design is all about, connecting designers with people from the industry and be that link that helps showcase talents. The conference in conjunction with the exhibition will speak about theories, techniques and technologies of design and development. It will set the stage for cross pollination of ideas and best practices apart from sharing experiences, inspiration, knowledge and skills. Eminent speakers will be touching upon various topics and details can be found here. And now for the pièce de résistance, participation for The RoadShow got an overwhelming response and we are proud to be representative for some really innovative designers, design firms and companies. Below is the list of cool folks that YD will be showcasing and representing. I take this moment to give a shout-out to TouchOfModern – home for extraordinary design. Many thanks for everything! Product Design Days is being held in Chennai India from the 22-23 November 2012. Be a part of the expo by attending the conference and visiting the exhibition to see cutting-edge, inspirational designs. See you there! - Related posts:

Posted: 12 Nov 2012 06:06 AM PST Imagine getting soaked by a car-splash, on your way to work or an important meeting. I've been through it one too many times thanks to the heavy monsoons my city experiences. The Rain Shield offers a shield-like umbrella and is crafted with a single curved steel wire and a telescopic rod. It has no pointed ends or sharp edges, and it won't blow inside out in windy conditions. Sounds too good to be true! But it is true, because I saw this at the red dot award: design concept ceremony in Singapore. Designer Liu Li-Hsiang demonstrated to me how this umbrella easily folds and compresses into a 180-millimetre-diameter disc that can be stored in a bag. Have a look at the video and judge for yourself. Designers: Lin Min-Wei & Liu Li-Hsiang - No related posts. |
Posted: 12 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST It takes a lot to pull off using plexiglass in furniture design, but Peter Koren is doing it RIGHT with the leviTABLE! Using crystal-clear plexiglass, the legs are near-invisible, giving the illusion that the solid walnut slab top is floating effortlessly in the air. This levitated monolith is sure to be a head-turner! Designer: Peter Zsolt Koren - Related posts: |
Posted: 12 Nov 2012 12:01 AM PST I know Halloween is over, but we just had to feature this creative casket design! The Head-UP coffin is an exploration in both structure and ritual that was adapted for the classic resting position. With a slight tilt in the middle, the striking shape is simultaneously modern and elegant. Composed entirely of wood (including the fastening components), it is also 100% degradable for those concerned with being green even after they’re gone! To seal the coffin, an inserted piece of wood with a personal message from loved ones is secured on top. Designers: Rafael Hintersteiner & Johannes Wolfsteiner - Related posts: |
