Home Away From Home

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 10:24 AM PST

This temporary mobile housing design aims to provide readily available shelter to those affected by a variety emergencies and disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and fires. Structurally, the unit is composed almost entirely of compressed oriented strand board, making it lightweight and easy to construct. Transportable as a small cube, the design can be set and expanded by lowering one side to create a separate section for sleeping quarters.

Sex Can Be Cute Too [NSFW]

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 06:29 AM PST

Most often, sex toys are either too crass or too sophisticated; seldom are they cute. A look at the v and you can't help but fall in love with their quirky personality instantly. The series of vibratoys with a funny, alluring and smiling look are called Geena, Clitt and Woody. For the record, Geena is an intimate massager, the funniest of the series; Clitt is a clitoral stimulator, the most engaging and Woody, the most determined has been designed to support the ergonomics.

The toys are designed using a soft material and are totally anallegric and phtalate-free. The rigid body made of ABS reduces the vibrations and the noise.

Bathtub Convenience

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 05:45 AM PST

The Elevated Bathtub is a very thoughtful bathing experience for those who suffer from limited mobility. I have a parent who has both their knees replaced and suffers from sever arthritis, so getting in or out of a bathtub is kinda risky. This unique bathtub allows the user to step into the bath area on a flat base without any hindrance. Split into two main parts, the tub enclosure can be lifted; and the flat base with a showerhead pillar doubles up as a lifting rail for the tub enclosure.

Elevated Bathtub is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Time in Color

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 12:02 AM PST

Gotta love this clever take on the modern watch! The Colorclock redefines the way we envision time by slowly transitioning the hue of the face across the color spectrum as time goes by. Now you get up five minutes to green, grab some lunch at half-past yellow, and go to bed at the stroke of purple. Do want!

Robot-Surgeon Hybrid Workstation

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 12:01 AM PST

The MIRO-Lab combines the precision advantages of robotics with the human know-how of surgeons into a single, process-optimized workstation that increases the overall quality of minimally invasive surgery. Using hand and foot movement with haptic and tactile feedback, surgeons have complete control of the operating area displayed on a 3D-Screen. It’s the next best thing to the surgery-module in the Alien movies! Hit the jump to see it in action!

Using the MIRO-Lab console terminal, the surgeon controls the robot system via hand and foot input. Haptic and tactile feedback allows a realistic simulation of forces and momentums: In this way he can palpate tumour tissue for instance. Furthermore the system compensates the surgeon's tremur and ensures movement with highest precision. With the fibrescope, an image of the operating area is transmitted to a curved 3D-screen. Its' concavity enables the surgeon a higher degree of immersion. While the surgery is in progress, the surgeon can prop himself on an adjustable arm support. All ergonomic settings of the interface can be controlled intuitively via the hand input devices and saved in an individual user profile. The open design of the system ensures having an ideal overview during surgery and a direct communication among the surgery team. The detailed observation and analysis of the work flow made it possible to reduce complexity.

Modern Easy Lounge Chair

Posted: 08 Jan 2013 02:46 PM PST

Check out this Kickstarter project called the Suzak – a lounge chair available in multiple color combinations. I’m partial to the simple design which invites you to sit almost any way you want. The material is made of industrial spandex that’s ultra tough, yet pliable. Strong enough to be used outdoors without concern for UV damage. You can support the project with as little as a $1 but you’ll need to put in $99 to get a chair. I want it because it looks like something my dog could use but easy for me to clean.
